Good Friday Retreat 2017
This retreat follows in chronological order the events of the Passion of Christ – the Triduum – beginning with the preparation of the Passover meal and ending when Jesus is placed in the tomb in Jerusalem time. You will see on the outline that follows the time in Des Moines, followed by the time in Jerusalem.
This is to be a silent retreat beginning approximately when the Passover preparation begins. It will begin in the Nave of the church and will move into the chapel following the Holy Thursday vigil. I will continue to pray from time to time in the nave of the church because I want to walk around as I say the rosary. I think I’ll need to be able to move around in order to stay awake and I will want to pray and meditate before the crucifix especially during the crucifixion. I will provide coffee, juice fruit, bread and perhaps some sandwich stuff in the parish center kitchen for Thursday.. Friday will be coffee only as we fast. Please no food or drink in the Church proper. I think that silence need not be maintained in the parish center. If I’m having a cup of coffee I might want to share something about Jesus’ passion. Anyone wishing to maintain their can move off into one of the other rooms. Each hour will be announced with the striking of a bell and where Jesus is chronologically in His Passion will be announced. If there is a scripture account appropriate to that time it will be read. The topic for prayer and reflection for the next hour will be announced and we will return to our silent meditation.
Just a word regarding the “meditation” topics. These are thoughts that occurred to me as I worked on this layout. You may have your own and so don’t be burdened by what I’ve put down. What I’m hoping is that we might enter into these events, walk with Jesus and the Apostles as we go through these last hours of Jesus’ life.
